About this Unit

The 21st Waffen Mountain Division of the SS "Skanderbeg" was one of the most exotic and rarest Waffen-SS divisions of World War II. It was formed in 1944 mainly from Albanian and Kosovo-Albanian Muslims and named after the Albanian national hero Georg Kastriota "Skanderbeg" (1405–1468) – the legendary defender of Albania against Ottoman expansion in the 15th century. The division was primarily deployed in the Balkans against the Yugoslav People's Liberation Army and remained constantly understrength due to desertion and recruitment problems. Divisional insignia of the "Skanderbeg" Division are among the absolute rarest Waffen-SS insignia ever and are internationally highly sought after by Balkan, Waffen-SS, and Albania specialist collectors.
