Historical Background

The Luftwaffe Glider Pilot's Badge was awarded to members of the German Luftwaffe who had successfully completed a recognized glider pilot training. In contrast to the large combat badges, it was issued in significantly smaller numbers, as glider pilots represented a specialist group within the Luftwaffe. The maker's mark on the reverse is an important authenticity feature and allows precise attribution to the producer. The preserved original case significantly increases the collector's value, as cases were often lost.
