1939 Iron Cross 1st Class Spange – 800 Silver Hallmarked, in Case (Original)

Offered for sale is an original 1939 Iron Cross 1st Class Spange, stamped on the reverse with the 800 silver hallmark and complete with its original case. This piece comes from an old, documented dealer inventory and is in age-appropriate good condition.

Historical Background

The Iron Cross 1st Class Spange was instituted on September 1, 1939, and awarded to recipients of the WWI Iron Cross 1st Class who had again proven their valor in World War II. It was worn on the WWI Iron Cross 1st Class, thus signifying double bravery. The Spange is significantly rarer than the EK1 itself and is among the sought-after WWII decorations. The 800 silver hallmark is an important authenticity feature, attesting to the high-quality material. The preserved original case considerably increases its collector's value, as cases were often lost.
