The Submarine War Badge of the Imperial Navy is one of the most sought-after and historically significant German naval badges of World War I. It was awarded to members of the submarine arm who had completed at least two combat patrols or distinguished themselves through particular bravery. German submarines waged an unprecedented trade war against the Allies in World War I – with temporarily devastating losses for British supply shipping. The non-ferrous metal version (brass alloy) is the early variant of the badge and is particularly sought after by specialist collectors. WWI Submarine War Badges are significantly rarer than the better-known WWII variants and are highly sought after internationally. Also available: Imperial Navy Naval Aviator Pilot's Badge (Art. No. 32.916) and Imperial German Zeppelin Badge (Art. No. 30.159).
