About the Orient Flight 1929 – the Graf Zeppelin's first major international flight
The Orient Flight of LZ 127 “Graf Zeppelin” in March 1929 was one of the airship's boldest and most spectacular early flights – only in its second year of operation after its maiden voyage (September 1928). The route led from Friedrichshafen via Geneva, Rome, Athens and Istanbul (Constantinople) to Egypt and Palestine – a journey through the history of civilizations. The mail carried on board was stamped with special Orient Flight postmarks, which bore different postmarks depending on the port of call. Orient Flight covers from 1929 are among the rarest Zeppelin philately items of all – early flights of the LZ 127 are significantly rarer than the later routine flights of the 1930s. Also available: Zeppelin Board Post “on board” 1928 (item no. 33.210), Polar Flight 1931 (item no. 33.216), LUPOSTA Danzig 1932 (item no. 33.212) and the entire Zeppelin stamp series in our assortment.
