Historical Background

The Police Long Service Award (1938) was instituted by Adolf Hitler via ordinance on January 30, 1938, and awarded to all police officers upon completion of the respective period of service. The 2nd Class honored officers for 18 years of loyal service and thus ranks above the 3rd Class (8 years, item no. 34.952). The award is a significant testament to German police history during the Nazi era.
