About the Zeppelin flight to Asunción and Philately
Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, was one of the southernmost stops on the German Zeppelin South America flights. In 1936, both the LZ 127 "Graf Zeppelin" and the newly commissioned LZ 129 "Hindenburg" were active on transatlantic routes to South America – the zenith of commercial Zeppelin air travel. Mail carried on board was marked with special Zeppelin postmarks from the respective countries. 1936 Paraguay stamps are among the rarest South American variations in Zeppelin philately and are highly sought after by international specialist collectors.
