About the Friedrich-Kreuz 1st Class and the Duchy of Anhalt

The Friedrich-Kreuz of the Duchy of Anhalt was instituted in 1914 by Duke Friedrich II of Anhalt and awarded in two classes: The 1st Class (pin-back – breast decoration) was the higher award and was bestowed for exceptional bravery in the face of the enemy. The 2nd Class was worn on a ribbon. The pin-back version of the 1st Class is rarer than the ribbon-mounted version and consequently more sought after by specialist collectors. The Duchy of Anhalt was one of the smaller German federal states in the German Empire – consequently, its awards are rare on the collector's market. Also available: Anhalt Friedrich-Kreuz 2nd Class on ribbon (Item No. 32.919) and Oldenburg Friedrich-August-Kreuz 1st Class (Item No. 32.918).
