In 1930, the airship LZ 127 "Graf Zeppelin", under Commander Hugo Eckener, undertook its famous South America journey, making several stops in South America – including Uruguay. The mail carried on board was franked with special Zeppelin postmarks from the respective countries, including the Uruguayan CORREOS URUGUAY postmark. Zeppelin postmarks and stamps from the great voyages of the 1920s and 1930s are among the most sought-after pieces in international airmail philately and fetch high prices at auctions. This precise custom-made item, based on an original template – produced for a scientific exhibition – offers Zeppelin and philately collectors a rare addition. Also available: Other Zeppelin postmarks in our assortment as well as Colonial Post Kiautschou 1901 (Item no. 32.472).
