Recife (Pernambuco) was the most important Zeppelin base in South America – it housed the only Zeppelin hangar on the American continent, which was regularly visited by LZ 127 "Graf Zeppelin" on its transatlantic voyages. Rio de Janeiro, as the then capital of Brazil, was the social highlight of every South American trip. Covers with both Brazilian stations on one cover are particularly rare and document the complete Brazilian route of the Zeppelin. In 1932, LZ 127 was already operating a regular scheduled service between Europe and South America – the first commercial transatlantic airmail service in history. Also available: Zeppelin CORREOS URUGUAY 1930 (Item No. 32.474), Asunción Paraguay 1936 (Item No. 33.208), Polar Flight 1931 (Item No. 33.216) and the entire Zeppelin stamp series in our assortment.
