The Polar Flight of LZ 127 "Graf Zeppelin" in July 1931 is one of the boldest and most legendary expeditions in aviation history. Under Commander Hugo Eckener, the airship flew to the Arctic – over Franz Josef Land and Novaya Zemlya – where it met the Soviet icebreaker "Malygin" to exchange scientific data and hand over mail. This unique encounter between airship and icebreaker in the Arctic was philatelically documented with special Polar Flight stamps, which were posted both aboard the Zeppelin and on the icebreaker. Polar Flight covers of LZ 127 are among the absolute rarities and highest-priced items in international Zeppelin philately – even rarer than regular onboard mail. This precisely crafted custom-made item, based on an original template, offers a unique opportunity to include this legendary chapter of aviation history in a collection. Also available: Zeppelin onboard mail "an Bord" 1928 (Art. No. 33.210), LUPOSTA Danzig 1932 (Art. No. 33.212) and the entire Zeppelin stamp series in our assortment.
