Engelbert Endrass was a recipient of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and was one of the most successful U-boat commanders in the Kriegsmarine. As former First Watch Officer under Günther Prien on U-47, he was involved in the famous sinking of HMS Royal Oak.
