The Luftwaffe Naval Combat Badge was instituted on November 27, 1944, by the Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe, Field Marshal Hermann Göring. It was awarded as a mark of recognition for proven combat performance to the seafaring personnel of air-sea rescue vessels, air traffic control, supply, and other special ships of the Luftwaffe.
This example is a post-war production by the renowned Viennese manufacturer Souval from the c. 1960s – high-quality collector's reproductions produced by Souval in Vienna after the war, which today themselves have collector's value.
