About the Military Chaplain's Cross and Military Chaplaincy in the German Empire

The Military Chaplain's Cross was the insignia of the Field Chaplains (military chaplains) in the German Empire – worn by Protestant and Catholic clergy who provided pastoral care to troops in the field. Military Chaplaincy was an integral part of the German armed forces since the 19th century – field chaplains accompanied the troops into war, offered comfort, held services, and cared for the wounded. The year 1907 places the piece in the late phase of the Wilhelminian Empire, shortly before the First World War. Military chaplain badges are among the rarest and least known German military badges – a highly specialized collecting area for connoisseurs of military and church history alike. Also available: Commemorative Cross IR Graf Bose No. 31 (Item No. 31.007) and other pre-1933 badges in the assortment.
