The Reichsgrenadier-Division "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" was an army unit of the Wehrmacht with one of the oldest and most traditional lineages in German military history. It stood in the tradition of the famous Imperial and Royal Infantry Regiment "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" No. 4 – one of the most renowned regiments of the Austro-Hungarian Army, which existed since the 17th century and derived its name from the Teutonic Order and its Grand Master. After the "Anschluss" of Austria in 1938, this tradition was adopted into the Wehrmacht. The division fought mainly in Italy and is among the most traditional units, particularly sought after by Austrian and Wehrmacht collectors.
