About this Unit

The 36th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS "Dirlewanger" – named after its commander Oskar Dirlewanger – was one of the most controversial units of the Waffen-SS. It was originally recruited from convicts and ex-convicts and was involved in numerous war crimes, including the suppression of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944.
