About the German Driver's Badge and driving sport

The German Driver's Badge was founded in 1921 and was the counterpart to the German Rider's Badge – specifically for carriage drivers (coach and wagon drivers) who demonstrated their riding and driving skills in examinations. It was awarded in three classes: Bronze (3rd Class), Silver (2nd Class), and Gold (1st Class). Driving sport had a long tradition in the Weimar Republic and the early 20th century – carriage driving was important both militarily (artillery, supply) and sportingly. The year 1930 places the piece in the late phase of the Weimar Republic. The manufacturer L.Chr.Lauer from Nuremberg guarantees the highest quality – his badges are particularly sought after by collectors. Also available: German Rider's Badge 3rd Class Bronze 1935 (item no. 31.008) and Horse Groom's Badge Bronze 1930 (item no. 31.009) – all three from the manufacturer L.Chr.Lauer.
