The Anhalt Service Award was founded in 1913 – shortly before the outbreak of the First World War – by the Duchy of Anhalt and awarded in several classes. The 2nd Class was awarded for many years of loyal military service and worn with a ribbon. Service awards from the individual German states from the late Imperial period (1871–1918) are among the rarest German awards – each federal state had its own systems, which were issued in limited numbers. The Duchy of Anhalt, as a small federal state, accordingly awarded few distinctions. Also available: Anhalt Friedrich Cross 1st Class (Art. No. 30.160), Anhalt Friedrich Cross 2nd Class with Ribbon (Art. No. 32.919) and Oldenburg FA Cross (Art. No. 32.918).
