About the Friedrich-August-Cross 2nd Class and the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg
The Friedrich-August-Cross (FA-Cross) of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg was instituted in 1914 by Grand Duke Friedrich August II and awarded in two classes. The 2nd Class – worn on a ribbon and executed in blackened non-ferrous metal – was the more frequently awarded class and was given for bravery in the face of the enemy. In contrast to the 1st Class (pin-backed, item no. 32.918), the 2nd Class was worn on a ribbon – the blackened non-ferrous metal execution is the typical and characteristic feature of this class. Together with the 1st Class (item no. 32.918), this piece forms the complete Oldenburg FA-Cross duo for specialist collectors. Also available: Mecklenburg Friedrich-Franz-Cross (item no. 31.012), Sachsen-Meiningen Cross for Merit in War (item no. 31.018) and other individual state orders in the assortment.
