The Cross for Merit in War was the war merit decoration of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen – one of the Thuringian small states in the German Empire, ruled by Duke Georg II of Saxe-Meiningen (the "Theatre Duke"). The cross was founded in 1914/15 at the beginning of World War I and awarded to Saxe-Meiningen soldiers and members of allied units for merit in war service. The Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen was one of the smallest German federal states – consequently, its war decorations are rare on the international collector's market. Orders from the Thuringian small states are among the rarest German individual state decorations of all. Also available: Mecklenburg Friedrich-Franz Cross (Art. No. 31.012), Oldenburg FA Cross (Art. No. 32.918), Anhalt Friedrich Cross (Art. No. 30.160 / 32.919) and other individual state orders in our assortment.
