Rare Luftwaffe Pilot's Commemorative Badge, stamped on the reverse with the manufacturer's mark CW. The zinc version with fine stamping dates to the early 1950s and comes from an old dealer's stock.

Historical Background

The Pilot's Commemorative Badge was awarded after honorable discharge from flying personnel. The prerequisite was at least four years' possession of a military pilot's badge; for other personnel, a period of 15 years applied. In exceptional cases – for example, in the event of an accident not caused by the recipient – the award could be made earlier.
