Named after the Hungarian national hero \u003cstrong\u003eJános Hunyadi\u003c\/strong\u003e (c. 1406–1456), Regent of Hungary and defender against Ottoman expansion.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe division was assembled at the \u003cstrong\u003eNeuhammer\u003c\/strong\u003e military training area. Already in \u003cstrong\u003eJanuary 1945\u003c\/strong\u003e, it became involved in the fighting in \u003cstrong\u003eSilesia\u003c\/strong\u003e, where it was deployed in several battle groups. The remnants of the division were then gathered in the area of \u003cstrong\u003eRoth near Nuremberg\u003c\/strong\u003e and finally fell into American captivity in the \u003cstrong\u003eSalzkammergut\u003c\/strong\u003e. The Hungarian members were subsequently handed over to Hungary.
